SUMMARY:Teaching Transition Skills ~ An Educator’s Guide to Addressing the Equity Gap Through the Empowerment of Executive Function
DESCRIPTION:Since the start of COVID-19 in 2020\, states and school districts have made remarkable efforts to strategically manage the disruption caused by the pandemic by implementing prudent health and safety precautions\, bridging the digital divide by improving remote/hybrid learning experiences for students and activating meaningful support of students and faculty alike. However\, the data shows that if the status quo is left unchanged\, the disadvantages faced by students of color are likely to translate into profound learning loss as these students are projected to return to school six to 12 months behind their peers and. If left unaddressed\, these equity gaps will result in ever so widening achievement gaps. \nAs educational leaders consider support measures and intervention strategies centered around access to both technology and in-person teaching\, research suggests that students will need specific and formal opportunities to build foundational skills that translate into learning how to learn in order to lead to improved engagement\, greater collaboration\, and effective self-regulated learning. SUMMARY:Stress\, Learning\, and Executive Function ~ Fostering interpersonal connections while implementing stress-busting strategies (Special Collaboration with Peg Dawson\, Ph. D.)
DESCRIPTION:Our children are living through a pandemic\, which means they are experiencing unprecedented and challenging times marked by unpredictability and unknowns. As educators begin to evaluate their plans for re-entry into school\, considerations must be given to how children will be given an opportunity to work through this crisis by discovering their personal strengths\, learning specific processes to tackle faux-pas or failures\, and connecting with others through a common purpose. By focusing effort on explicitly building executive function skills and social-interpersonal connectivity\, we all can intentionally help learners regain their bearing as they tackle the new norms of a persistent pandemic. \nJoin Sucheta Kamath\, CEO & Founder of ExQ\, and her collaborator Dr. Peg Dawson\, Ph.D.\, author of Smart but Scattered for a webinar where they will discuss how to build a pro-EF culture while implementing realistic and effective stress-busting strategies to help kids become more engaged and self-regulated learners. \nJoin us and learn how to: \n\nUnveil the hidden executive function curriculum that often lies dormant during normal learning conditions.\nApply an Executive Function framework to reach and teach students.\nStrengthen social\, emotional\, and interpersonal skills to nurture relationships between teachers and students\, as well as among students\, to allow sharing\, collaboration\, and teamwork.\nCultivate an EF Culture to help students identify their place in the learning community.\n\nWebinar Replay\n\n  \nDownload the ExQ® Webinar Guide

SUMMARY:Social-Emotional Learning ~ The Wind Beneath Their Wings (Special Collaboration with Dr. Debra Krodman-Collins)
DESCRIPTION:What is success? For schoolchildren\, academic achievement is typically the measure of success. Each student’s accomplishment is summarized in test scores. Hence\, a great deal of energy\, effort\, and funding seem to go towards making test scores soar. More broadly\, however\, success includes life achievements\, health\, prosperity\, and happiness. Research shows these attainments depend on strong executive function. The importance of executive function holds during the school years and beyond\, impacting accomplishments such as career advancement\, social relationships\, marital harmony\, and other indicators of quality of life. \nYet\, when we move our focus to executive function\, we find children are vulnerable. Stress\, particularly chronic stress\, interferes with their development. Even when they do develop\, stress disrupts their overall functioning. How\, then\, can we nurture and support executive function? Children are social and emotional beings well before they are subjected to academic instruction. Social-emotional learning comes first\, and a social-emotional strain is a significant source of stress. To optimize academic learning\, it is essential to promote the development and application of executive function. Optimizing executive function means building our children’s social-emotional competence: the wind beneath their wings. \nJoin Sucheta Kamath\, CEO & Founder of ExQ\, for a webinar and her collaborator\, Dr. Debra Krodman-Collins\, psychologist and co-author of the S.T.O.P. and Relax© yoga-based self-calming curriculum for a discussion showing how all learning is social-emotional\, requiring effortful skill building. \nJoin us and learn how to: \n\nHelp students identify and regulate their emotional responses.\nEngage and teach students who demonstrate challenging behaviors including unpleasantness\, resistance\, or noncompliance.\nEquip students to self-reflect and actively self-regulate.\nPromote student success using the lens of social-emotional learning.\n\nWebinar Replay\n\n  \nDownload the ExQ® Webinar Guide\n\n \n \n "*" indicates required fields \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n FacebookThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n E-mail Address*\n \n \n Enter Email\n \n \n \n Confirm Email\n \n \n ExQ respects your time and inbox! SUMMARY:The Science of Studying: Fostering a “How to Learn” Mindset
DESCRIPTION:While grades on homework\, reading assignments\, projects\, and tests are all a means to assess how well a kid has learned something\, what’s often much more important is how they got there. In addition\, the act of learning requires that kids discover and implement their own methods to overcome personal learning obstacles such as inattention\, lack of motivation\, and poor insight. Yet\, the traditional school experience does not explicitly teach students how to study\, and so the strategies and habits that help them become self-sufficient often eludes young learners. \nIn this webinar for educators and parents\, Sucheta will introduce the “how to learn” mindset and its relationship to effective learning. She will explore what we expect from our kids when we ask them to “study\,” and in doing so she will elaborate on the key components of smart studying that arise from the cognitive processes involved in understanding information\, memorizing facts and details\, and anticipating questions that assess comprehension. Finally\, Sucheta will share ideas that help students achieve better insight into their own learning mastery\, helping teachers and parents serve more as learning guides rather than simply subject tutors. \n  \nThis webinar will answer the following important questions: \n\nWhat is the “how to learn” mindset and why is it important for young learners?\nWhat are the key habits and strategies that allow students to study effectively and self-sufficiently?\nHow can we best help learners to…\n\nAssess their personal learning strengths and challenges?\nEvaluate learning demands from each subject and teacher?\nMaster critical study skills?\nEngage in self-advocacy and problem-solving?\n\n\n\nWebinar Replay\n\n  \nDownload the ExQ Science of Studying Webinar Guide

Kids need ample support to overcome the barriers that arise as they prepare to return to school\, and mastery of Executive Function is the way to get there. \nIn this webinar for educators and parents\, Sucheta will discuss four factors that impede a child’s ability to transition readily\, and will subsequently teach relevant strategies for how to form useful learning goals and engineer solutions to their own challenges. Sucheta will share how becoming a self-sufficient student is a trainable skill and every developing brain needs guidance from teachers and parents to use effective methods that shape their success in school. \n  \nThis webinar will answer the following important questions: \n\nWhat’s the connection between Executive Function abilities\, motivation\, and self-sufficiency in school-age children?\nWhy are transitions\, including going to back to school\, so hard on the brain?\nHow can we help our kids achieve school success?\n\nLearning objectives: \n\nHone 5 easy once-a-day habits that promote mastery of Executive Function\nDesign home and classroom environments that help kids overcome boredom\,confusion\, and processing problems\nIgnite interest with curiosity and a growth mindset\n\nHelp kids develop habits to stay engaged in challenging subjects\nLearn how to use transitions to facilitate help-seeking behaviors\n\n  \nWebinar Replay\n\n  \nDownload the ExQ Back-to-School Brain Webinar Guide

SUMMARY:Staying Sharp in the Summer! Learning Strategies to Keep your Child Stimulated and Engaged During the Summer Vacation
DESCRIPTION:No school doesn’t mean no parenting. Though it’s important for children to let loose and have fun during the summer\, especially to recover from a potentially exhausting school year\, this comes with the risk of them returning to school unprepared and having lost some key adaptive skills. Parents often struggle to walk the difficult line between relaxation and readiness\, and this becomes evident in some children’s rough transitions back to an intense schedule when school rolls around again. \nIt’s the brain’s Executive Function that allows kids to adapt and adjust from the loose structure of the summer to the tight structure of school\, and there are specific strategies and habit that parents can develop to make this adjustment process as smooth as possible. \nIn this webinar\, Sucheta will discuss tips and tricks to overcome the challenges that arise during the laid-back months of summer\, outline techniques to keep your kid’s brain stimulated to activate their creative mind\, and finally\, help parents and kids connect their learning to real purpose. \nWebinar Replay\n\n  \nDownload the Staying Sharp in the Summer Webinar Guide
