Meaningfully different, to drive meaningful results.
How do we choose the best approach for teaching ALL our students (regardless of competency, zip code, or support) the critical cognitive thinking skills they need to succeed in school, and in life?
Let us show you how!
According to experts (Brain Futures and others), Executive Function and social-emotional curricula are NOT all the same.
Instead, there are some key differentiating elements that educators and parents should consider when selecting a new resource or curriculum to help students achieve.
ExQ for School® offers a unique, comprehensive package that incorporates all the elements recommended for teaching the whole child to learn Executive Function, social emotional, and metacognitive skills.
Explicit Executive Function Training
ExQ for School is a transformative model of teaching students Executive Function skills directly. Instead of a “train the trainer model,” ExQ delivers training directly to the student so they can learn skills through hands-on, mindful daily practice. Schools offer classes in English, History, Math, and Science but there’s not a class on How to Learn? Until now that is! ExQ for School teaches the student WHY Executive Function skills matter and HOW to become critical thinkers and independent learners through daily skills training, learning from mistakes, virtual AI coaching and self-reflection exercises.
Mindfulness Practice
There are noted benefits for including yoga, meditation, and similar wellness programs in our schools. But experts agree offering these resources without Executive Function strategies are stopping short of the rigorous training needed to teach the whole student the comprehensive skills they need to fulfill their potential. ExQ training is different because it includes built in self-reflection exercises to engage students in the practice strategies required for cultivating a mindful approach to learning AND prompt students to develop advanced cognitive techniques to expand learning potential. Also, ExQ is not lecture based. Instead, ExQ is like practicing the piano to learn scales and finger dexterity before a recital or, working out to build muscle and endurance or running laps before a track meet. Using similar techniques, ExQ provides daily interactive brain training, expert instruction, and self-reflective practices to help students develop the brain functions critical to applying Executive Function skills in real life, when the pressure is on!
Social Emotional Skills
ExQ for School includes emotional regulation techniques and perspective-taking strategies in daily practice games and features real life scenarios to help students connect what they experience in the games to real-world challenges such as family collaboration, healthy social interactions, respectful team building, inclusiveness, and accountability. ExQ teaches the full umbrella of Executive Function skills, helping students understand how their emotions, relationships, sleep, nutrition, and even trauma can impact learning. Most importantly, ExQ teaches students the self-awareness skills they need to overcome challenges with healthy coping strategies and practical ways to seek help from appropriate resources when needed.
Brain Literacy / Vocabulary
ExQ literally teaches students the science of learning. It is a class designed to teach every student how their own brain works—not just in theory, but in real life. Students, teachers, and parents will also benefit from learning a new shared vocabulary to facilitate productive, proactive conversations around ways to build the strategies needed to produce desired results, instead of just commentary on resulting behavior when a child misbehaves or during a once a semester conference. This shared vocabulary about HOW we learn will also help students foster confidence and empathy about how each of us learns differently and, how we all work together to build connected communities.
Autonomous Use
ExQ is designed for students to work independently to build the skills necessary to know how to apply self-advocacy in school and in life! Each student receives the individualized training they need to build a unique learning approach that is designed for self, by self, to achieve goals set for oneself. This is the true meaning of teaching students how to become the architect of their own lives!
Assessment
ExQ for School begins with a thorough self-assessment that is compared with test games; the result is a personalized ExQ Learning Profile (MyBrain) that highlights each student’s areas of strength and challenges. The profile is shared with teachers and parents, offering students an opportunity to facilitate growth-oriented conversations about roadblocks, issues, struggles, and the joys they experience while learning.
Individualized / Dynamic Content
ExQ is unique in that every student’s training is personalized based on their own learning assessment results, and in real time, content is dynamically displayed based on a student’s in-game performance. Each learning experience is tailored to the individual student based on their own pace, skill set, and performance. Every student receives in-depth coaching that isn’t possible in most classrooms with 20+ students and varying degrees of progress.
Feedback Loop
ExQ offers students feedback about their own performance in real time, strengthening learning and memory, and offering built in opportunities to demonstrate they are learning from their own mistakes. Students benefit from observing changes in their own mental skills and build even greater awareness of their own ability to advocate for themselves and how this offers mentoring, coaching and insight that can help them achieve positive outcomes.
Progress Measures
ExQ for School offers a quantifiable method for gauging Executive Function skills progress. Assessment of Executive Function:
