Stephanie M. Carlson, Distinguished McKnight University Professor and Director of Graduate Studies at the Institute of Child Development, University of Minnesota
She is Co-founder of Reflection Sciences Inc. and Reflective Performance Inc. Dr. Carlson is an internationally recognized leader in the study of executive function (brain basis of self-control). She has developed innovative ways of measuring executive function in young children and, in 2014, co-founded Reflection Sciences, which provides Executive Function assessment (ages 2+) and surrounding services to educators. In 2021, she co-founded Reflective Performance, which brings insights on executive function to workforce development.

The series is designed to bring together public and private school leaders, teachers, researchers, policymakers, and change makers to address specific topics connected to Executive Function including engagement, technology, diversity, equity, and inclusion–all critical in the academic, social, and emotional success of our students. The webinar discussions is moderated by Sucheta, and the Full Frontal panelists are asked to share diverse perspectives about the neuroscience of Executive Function in lifelong learning and meaningful lives. Dr. Lisa Herring, Superintendent, Atlanta Public Schools, Georgia

Dr. Lisa Herring brings a servant heart and more than 25 years of experience in education with her to Atlanta Public Schools as its new superintendent. Embracing a passionate belief that education is the greatest equalizer, Dr. Herring believes in the inner strength, power, and talent of all children. Success, she says, does not rest on where we begin in life but how each of us maximizes our talents and pursues our purpose. The concept is critical in serving, supporting and educating children and future leaders. A Macon, Georgia, native and graduate of both Spelman College and Georgia Southern University, Dr. Herring established her professional career by teaching in both public and private schools in urban and rural settings. These experiences allow her to impact the lives of students from diverse social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds. Dr. Herring comes to APS from Birmingham (Alabama) City Schools, where she led the district through a significant transformation by stabilizing leadership, improving system performance, and increasing student achievement. Under her leadership, BCS received its first award of full district accreditation after being under state takeover and conditional accreditation for several years. Her focus on instruction significantly reduced the number of failing schools as identified by the Alabama State Department of Education school report card.

Dr. Michael Duncan, Superintendent, Pike County Schools, Georgia

Michael Duncan became Superintendent, Pike County Schools, Georgia in June of 2005. He is currently one of Georgia’s longest continuously serving school superintendents. He is the winner of the 2018 Georgia School Superintendents Association’s Bill Barr Leadership Award, a 2018 and 2019 Superintendent of the Year Finalist, the 2021 Superintendent of the Year Winner, and a 2012 recipient of the Georgia School Superintendents President’s Award. Before arriving in Pike, Michael was a high school principal, high school and middle school assistant principal, and a middle school teacher. He earned a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Georgia in 2004. He is married to his best friend Melanie and they have two sons, Josh and Alec.

Beacon is both a Short Film and forthcoming feature documentary film (2022) that follows three students as they make the leap across the education gap: Meleah, Makai and Exavion are Boston-area public middle-schoolers who by 8th grade rank far below their suburban peers....

They take a chance entering Beacon Academy, a 14 - month program between middle and high school that aims to help public school students prepare to apply to some of the best private high schools in the country.

Throughout his career, he has held numerous positions at every level of public school education beginning as a high school Mathematics teacher; assistant principal; high school principal; Executive Director for Curriculum, Instruction, Professional Learning and Federal Programs. He also held the position as Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning; Deputy Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and School Leadership. Dr. Beasley is considered a transformational educator and instructional leader with proven success in the supervision of both large urban and suburban school districts.
